Excursions

We invite members of the Society to suggest destinations for evening walks, full- and part-day visits or long weekend excursions to sites of archaeological, architectural or historical interest. Please contact Rosemary Martin, preferably by email, or by phone on 01244 324384, for support in making the practical arrangements.
Excursion to North Wales, Saturday 19 May 2012
This excursion takes in a series of fascinating local but easily overlooked sites: the mound (tomen) at Llanarmon yn Ial, the 12th-century church of St Garmon, the stone circle near Nannerch, prehistoric sites and Roman and later lead-workings on Halkyn Mountain, and finally Fflint Castle. The cost  for members will be £14 plus lunch (Non-members welcome but £1.00 surcharge).  More information and booking form.

Excursion to Salford, Friday 22 June 2012
The main destination is the medieval Ordsall Hall (for more information on this see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordsall_Hall); then on to the charming village of Worsley, with its black and white buildings and section of early canal, for lunch; finally a look at the various crossings of the Mersey at Widnes. The cost  for members will be about £15 plus lunch (Non-members welcome but £1.00 surcharge).  More information and booking form

(Note: we have had to arrange this excursion for a weekday to avoid Saturday football crowds at Old Trafford).
